Routing problems i think
« on: September 28, 2002, 03:57:47 AM »
I have a small home office network and a ADSL connection through a D-Link 504 Router, as described below.

[D-Link 504]
----|----
----|----
[Linux Firewall]
----|----
----|----
[Windows 2000 Server1\Windows 2000 Server2\XP1\XP2]

Using a registered .co.uk with same isp that supplies my static ip address, i have a link to my static ip address on the router, so that certain users can gain access to my 2k servers. Using portforwarding on both the router and the linux box to the win2k's.

This all works fine, apart from that i cannot test it from inside the LAN myself, i have to ask friends to do so. Is there a way around this, i really need to be able to test this myself.

I have only recently gone ADSL, prior to that had a ISDN external modem connected straight to the linux box.

I could then ping and http my isp assigned ip address and in fact made use of DynDns.org as well. This worked fine and i could test it.

I bought the router thinking it would give me a second line of security, but not so secure it wont let me out and back in again.

Iv'e been told that it's possibly NAT thats causing the proplem.

Many Thanks
