I am also having the same problem. I upgraded from e-smith 4.x to the new system (downloaded from the Ottawa site) and ran into exactly the same set of issues, no kernel on disk and no kernel on boot floppy.

As this is an existing system, I do not want to re-install to a single drive since this will wipe out existing ibays.

Is there a workaround where I can mount the files from another rescue disk, such as tom's rootboot and then transfer the bays to another server? Or, is this an unfortunate situation that will be patched shortly?

Looking for any help.

regards,

Well,

I put the drives on different IDE channels and it boots without the floppy.

I do not have an explanation to why this happens.

I think you have to use two "same" disk for soft raid in 5.5. "same" means equal cycl,head,sectors... so it is better to get two same brand, same model disks. Otherwise, sme may only detects half of your hd space(mostly) or not boot at all. It is like stop at "Li" or "LiL"....

if you need to check your hd, try following:
