I've used both the Speedtouch (with BPA) and the Dynalink RTA020 (with TPG) modems on E-smith and have had no problems with either. I don't think you'll have any problems.

I dont know the dsl 300 modem but
I just connected a TPG ADSL service using a Dynalink Askey RTA020 ADSL Modem. You need to put a second NIC in the sme server and connect the card to the modem.

In the server console External Interface Configuration screen, select the option for ADSL, I used a static IP and entered the static IP and Gateway IP  and subnet mask from information supplied by TPG that was on the data sheet that came with the modem. The modem was configured as a bridged modem. Depending on your ISP service your configuration settings may be different.

It all worked first go !! Sme server appears to handle ADSL smoothly.

Hope this helps

I've configure quite a few DSL 300s with SME. No problems.

I dont know how I can get my connection working, d-link sh*t support f**kin @$$holes &#%¤&¤%!!!!

they promised to help and call back, they never did! all what they say on support that they dont know and they need to find person who knows and they dont know how to do that and then they promise to phone back, but hey, I have been reading about-dlink support from many forums and places, lot of peoples complains they dont call back even they promise, I dont trust anymore to their words,

anyway, IF someone can help or has been fighting with this same issue, and resolve it, plz email it to me, it sure can save my life!

okey problem is this, I have d-link DSL-300 adsl ethernet modem
I need to set:
VPI 0
VCI 33
encapsulation RFC 1483 LCC Bridged
modulation G.DMT ITU G.992.1

d-link sofwares suck very much, one software does allow to change only vpi/vci and another software doesnt work at all, believe me I have seek and tested everything.

If there is not sofware to change those settings then I can do it manually by hyperterminal/console, but I would need to know commads to change modulation..

I did rent DSL-200 usb modem and my connection works fine with it, but because I own that DSL-300, I need to get it work, plz help me.

are you using a dsl 300 plus
if you are
go into the modem setup and change the setting to rf1483 briged.

once that is done setup the e-smith server as a static ip address using the ip address's they gave you.
reboot and thats it it should work cause the RFC 1483 LCC Bridged is a static ip address.

so no ppoa or ppoe . if you are using the standard dsl 300 it dosn't support briged mode take it back and change it for the plus model which canbe set to RFC 1483 LCC Bridged.
all the other settings are done via the network card.

no, its not DSL-300+ or DSL300i.

it is just DSL-300

I need to know how to configure it by console, I know how to change IP by console/hyperterminal but I dont know any other commands.

I phoned again to D-Link support and they said they try to find person who knows about configurationg DSL-300 but then I asked -can it take over year? she answered "I dont know how long it takes, hopely not that long"

So, if you know or anyone else knows adsl console command language or any place where I could find commands to configure it, then it really would save me,

I have been working on this issue now over 4 days. I have been reading thousands of www pages, I have been contacting d-link support again and again, no results.

Only info what they could say it was that when dsl-300 is mis-configurated then adsl light is off on front panel.

maybe I call them again today, but if and when I find the way to configure DSL-300 modem then I sure will share info here and in many places,

this is so frustrating....

check with your provider that they support the dsl 300 modem
cause when i connected to flow in australia i got a dsl300+ modem and later found out if i had got the dsl300 it wouldn't work.

Just looking at the dsl-300 modem can you change thr protocol to the
RFC 1483 LCC Bridged

After reading a little more informaiton on the dsl 300 it is only RFC1483 so all you should have to do is change the vci and vpi to the correct ones provided by your provider.
assuming your dsl 300 is ethernet
set sme to a static ip with the information provided and that should be it
also run your webserver in server/gateway mode and provide no select master dns.
the ip address in the dsl300 is the ip of the modem not anything else.
this is all i can say without seeing it.

Good luck

Hi,

Was there any outcome re: DSL 300 installation?
I run sme5.6 and am with Telstra Bigpond ADSL and would like to know if anyone had any success with this install. What steps did you go through to get it working.
I have used the Alcatel Speedtouch Pro sucessfully until it died last night and I had a spare DSL-300 and cannot get it going (it does work - I tested at my mate's office this morning on an xp box)

Thanks

Looking forward to your reply

Hi Mizou,

While I have not used the DSL 300 on Bigpond, I have used it on a few other ISPs with SME 5.6 and no hassles.

You said your DSL 300 works at a friend's place. Is he also with Bigpond ADSL ? If so, then you don't need to check your Modem settings any further. If your friend is with another provider, then you might need to check the Modem settings.
