HPLJ Printer Under V4.0b7
« on: April 29, 2000, 09:00:02 PM »
I have a Laserjet printer connected to my Esmith gateway/server V4.0b7 which I cannot seem to access from my Windows clients.  I added the printer to my config using the web interface on LPT1.  I can see the gateway system in my Windows Network Neighborhood along with the printer, but as soon as I try to print to it I am prompted for a password for the resource.  I tried all of the passwords that I could think of, but didn't have any luck.  Also, how do you configure the Esmith system to see the printer as a laserjet, or does it just pass through the Windows configured data to the printer transparently?

Thanks!
Brian

Hello,

Ok brian, what you need to do is create some new users in win98. Or you need to add the current usernames for win98 into e-smith. So for example if you have a user called geoff on your e-smith server with a password of 'abcde' then on the windoze machine you need to setup the same username and password. Or vice versa, and once you do that, don't worry you won't be prompted for a password anymore.
