Topic: How to change "Office Hours" times (now: 8a - 6p)

When configuring e-Smith / SME Server 5.5
 I can only pick one of { None, Short, Long, Continuous }
 for each of { Office Hours, After Hours, Weekend } (by other names)
 - but our intended "Business Day" -isn't- SME Servers
 (which assumes 8a -

 Well, we've just signed up with a new ISP that
 offers up to 12 hours / day, continuous access
 (great in a land where we're CHARGED for -local-
 phone calls; a 12-hour session saves us 2 'ticks'
 per day!)

 (Good value: Au$14.50 for over 310 hr's last month
 with local calling costs 1/3 of our previous month's)

 Unfortunately, the deal specifies which 12 hours
 we're paying for (namely, 6a - 6p in -their- local
 time zone, which maps to 5:30a - 5:30p in ours)

 Needless to say, we need to select Continuous
 but none of SME Server's 3 times-of-day/-week
 catagories -quite- meet our needs.

 Q.1: How to change the default "Office Hours"
        limits (from 8a - 6p) to ours (eg 5:3a - 5:3p)?

        (We just need the path/name for the file)

 Q.2: Is there any way to make the "Weekend"
        work like the non-Weekend days...?

        How to make it so?

Hi,

At some sites, I worked around the problem by putting on an electronic timer to power on and power off the external modem connected to SME. That way, I can just set SME to "continuous" and let my timer worry about what the working hours actually are.

I'm not 100% sure if these are what you want but try

/etc/e-smith/templates/etc/diald.filter
and look at
20office
40outside
60weekends

edit the line near the top that says restrict 8.00.00 ......

You should make custom templates so that your modifications are not replaced by the system
/etc/e-smith/templates-custom/etc/diald.filter/20office
/etc/e-smith/templates-custom/etc/diald.filter/40outside
/etc/e-smith/templates-custom/etc/diald.filter/60weekends

You might also want to setup something to ping external sites to keep your connection open if your ISP disconnects you when idle for more than 20 minutes.

Also if your sme disconnects before the 20 minutes edit the same files as above
$otherHold = 1200 or whatever you want/need
