Installing on partitioned disks?

Installing on partitioned disks?
« on: October 17, 2002, 09:59:28 AM »
Hi!

I have a machine with two identical 100 GB IDE hard disks. Both are identical and have four partitions: 40, 20, 20 and 20 GB.

What happens if I install 5.1.2 on this machine? Will all partitions be RAIDed if I choose that option? Will all partitions be available to my network?

Thank you in advance?

From http://www.e-smith.org/docs/manual/5.1/licensing.html

Warning
The computer on which you install this software will be totally dedicated to being your SME Server V5 with ServiceLink. The hard drive of this computer will be erased and re-written with the Linux operating system - dramatically enhancing the reliability of your server over other operating systems. However, this means that while this computer is acting as your server, you cannot use it for any other purpose.

This means it will erase all partitions and and do it's own thing.....
There are threads that describe modifying the install script to get around this, but beware. If you wish to keep the data on those disks, I would suggest copying it all onto the second disk, remove that disk prior to the install and then add it in after (again look through the forums).
