Several vendors offer command-line version of their
anti-virus products.
I have had good success with:
1.
http://www.antivirus.com (Trend Micro FileScan, iscan)
2.
http://www.sophos.com (Sophos Sweep, sweep)
3.
http://www.antivir.de (H+BEDV AntiVir, antivir)
4.
http://www.nai.com (McAfee VirusScan for Unix, uvscan)
All offer a free version ... but only (1) and (3) offer a completely
free and full-featured version for linux. (3) requires updating the
free license once a year. Only (1) has a web-based interface
and automatic updates. The others can be given automated
updates with some standard Unix/linux tricks.
All 4 work with the mail-scanner package: scan4virus.
http://www.geocities.com/jhaar/scan4virus/This package works with the e-mail server that comes with
e-smith: qmail.
All of this takes manual configuration and some linux
expertise. They are not easy for novices to set
up by any means. (Scan4virus may require some
additional software installed which is
available for free from RedHat:
http://www.redhat.com)
The results, however, are fantastic, as all
incoming and outgoing e-mail can be scanned and
you can also have certain file attachment
types (like .VBS) be automatically refused.
