Not sure what you mean here ?
Using server console logged on as admin, you should be able to step through the configuration screens and change the server mode from server and gateway to server only. If you cannot do this then something is wrong !!

I don't know what else to suggest !
What else have you done or changed on the sme server from standard install ?

Can you successfully ping the Win XP box from sme ?
Can you successfully ping the sme box from Win XP ?

Hello,

While Linux can be configured to access the Internet through the proxy
server, we cannot support the configuration for this at this time.

Also, your E-Smith services will probably not work for the Internet behind
the LAN Suite proxy server as many of these services require the ability to
open ports, which is something LAN Suite does not support.

What/which ports does SME try to open?
