What is the most up-to-date released version of SME Server (formerly e-smith server and gateway)?
The latest official release of SME Server is 5.6

sorry hit return to post that before I could add that the extract is from the e-smith faq. Does this indeed mean we have a "final" release of 5.6?

Hmmm, Ditto! - but somehow I don't think it will happen. ( happy to be proved wrong! )
They would be using an up-to-date kernel then and I don't think that's allowed with e-smith is it? LoL
Sorry, but it could have been 2.4 in SME5.5 but wasn't and the wait is getting painful.
With that said, a big THANK-YOU to the guys who make SME possible at all. :)

still wish they'd hurry up - I need the new kernel to drive my Gb network cards for the new servers I am setting up :-) Rapidly running out of excuses for not pushing ahead with the deployment. They must be fairly happy with it now as there is little going on in the dev mailing list to suggest they are finding lots of bugs so lets all hope its soon.

and to save loads of dittos - thanks Mitel dudes we wub all really for giving us E-smith.

Have all of you tested the 5.6beta, thoroughly, and reported all found bugs to bugs@e-smith.com? Are you running 5.6beta on your home server?

Are any of you supporting SME development, say, by becoming Mitel partners, or being a customer of one?

For a ready-to-go solution choose Intel cards, either onboard or pci nics, and use the appropriate updated e100/e1000 drivers for SME 5.5.

Available here:

Intel cards might have been an option had I not already spent over 1000 quid on 3com server cards. Wouldnt want to go back to the bursar and tell her I need to go spend the same again because I've decided to take us down the linux route instead of Win 2k adv server to save money!!

ive been running 5.6 myself for some weeks with no hassles,
but hey it dont get worked hard.

i too APPLAUD THE SME guys - and wish ALL a GREAT SEASON
from downunder.

i too am desperate for 5.6 for a SCSI RAID - i reckon
from the views of 'comfort' in this thread I'll pop it in:

am i right in assuming the live 5.6 will then be an 'upgrade'?

Dear Charlie,

I've tried to contact sales, but it's quite difficult to get replyes from the sales staff.

Even called the British office and asked for a sales consultant, and afterwords emailed him with questions about prices etc.

I was in november and i haven't heard a thing yet?

I'm running the SME 5.5 at home (for sharing internet with the kids), and a RedHat 7.3 (with a Lotus Domino Sever on top of it) at my work.

Cheers
