Which Wireless Card??

Which Wireless Card??
« on: December 02, 2002, 04:59:22 PM »
Searched the forums for this but can't get a definitive answer. Need to link a satellite system over the road to the office - would like to use SME with a wireless card (with antennae connection) as it's external interface.
Anyone know of a common wireless card which will work with SME with the least amount of hassle (not a command line expert without a howto)

I would consider using an access point over a wireless card. The price differences are not that great coupled with the fact that there is a fair amount of work required in getting the wireless cards set up.

The D-link PCI wireless cards work as do the Zoomair pcmcia cards. Both have fittings for external antennas.

Thanks Duncan,
Have gone for a pair of D-Link AP's instead of the cards.

I just set up a couple of D-Link units for a customer. Worked very well.

Duncan,

Which version of SME were you installing the Dlink cards on and which model were they.

Is there a howto about it around somewhere.

Still fighting to get mine going correctly.

I installed the cards on 5.1.2 a while ago. I am no longer using them but they worked well at the time.

This card

No howto i think (a lot of time crawling the net)

I would not use a wireless card yet due to the horrendous security vulnerabilities. Wait for the better cards to come out in Q1 '03. Look at Netgear's web site, for example.
