IPSEC and DHCP
« on: December 14, 2002, 08:14:54 PM »
I currently have both servers (Central v5.5 Remote v5.1) running on cable modems. Both have dynamic IP addresses, but they only change once every two or three months. Is there a way to find out what the External Gateway Router IP is since it’s automatically configured? I think that this is my last hurdle setting up FreeS/WAN IPSEC

Thanks,
Jim

Sure, browse to http://www.whatismyip.com from a workstation connected via the SME server to the Internet and you'll get your external IP.

Also, the command "ifconfig" from a shell prompt will  do it.

He's actually after the server's gateway (not the lan's gateway) which is also known as the nexthop. I'm not sure how you'd get this info and I really think you'll have your work cut out getting two dynamic IP boxes to connect. Good Luck

Use the 'route' command to display your IP routing table.  Default is your external gateway.

# route

James,

Did you get anywhere with FreeS/WAN Dynamic IP installation. I am contemplating the same thing (two 5.5 SMEs with dynamic IPs one DSL, the other broadband RF). I would like to use FreeS/WAN but have not tried in it. Any words of advice?James BeVard wrote:

Hi there

I´ve installed 3 SME server 5.6 over the same ISP (Cable Modem Service provided by Fibertel(Argentina)).
When connect some of them, the others servers come down.

The 3 servers are in different locations but in the same city,  zone and model of modem (motorola Surfboard 3600)
All servers have the same type of connection (ip by macaddress).
do you have any idea?

Sorry for my english but i speak in spanish... ;-(

regards
Fernando

Perdon. (sorry)
He colocado este mensaje en un lugar erroneo. Ya he abierto un nuevo item.
Lo quiero decir con "servers come down" es que se desconectan (disconnect). Toman la misma IP.

Gracias.
