Hi all !

I'm on  the e-smith 4.0x server (dedicated,no dhcp) and the ibays call within the web or intranet is working fine ...w3.xxxx.org/ibays/
The only thing a get from a call to cgi script is the friendly 404 error...
I've look in srm.conf and found the good alias to script (name of ibays/cgi-bin/)
and I still can't access it even with full access, even try a working script of my primary web...(this is not a chmod error...) and still doooooops 404 ...

Need help !
ThanX

Hi Fred.  Well you found a bug.  Below is a segment from a previous posting that my college wrote to temporarily fix the problem until the next release.

"  This is a result of a bug in the e-smith software that we are looking into right now. The bug will only affect clients using DHCP to obtain an IP for the external interface. For a quick workaround, follow these steps:

  1) find out what the assigned IP address is. To do this, run the commandifconfig (interface configuration) on the e-smith server and gateway. You should be able to determine which interface is external and what it's IP addyis.

  2) Reconfigure the e-smith server and gateway to use this IP as a static IP address.

You will now be able to access you i-bays from the outside world. I am assuming for the moment you are using the server and gateway in dedicated mode. I realise this isn't the best fix, just a temporary workaround.

Some cable-modem access providers require that you must use DHCP. If this is your case, set the e-smith server and gateway back to using DHCP - more than likely will be assigned the same IP and your i-bays should work.

As soon as we fix the problem we'll post it on the developers mailing list. Thanks for pointing this out! "

I hope this help you Fred.
Erin.

After reading the part about dedicated/no dhcp (sorry I missed that), could you give me a litte more info?   I am not entirely when you get this error.  Sorry about that....

I can access an ibay from my local network/web,
but can't execute CGI scripts in it !

I've tried a little script that work in the primary and put in the root
of an ibay and still not working (error 404)...

So:
-I checked the rights to user (e-smith manager) put FULL ACCESS !
-I checked the mod (755) and it's OK...
-I checked the path of the URL and it's OK...
-I ckecked the srm.conf anf the alias is there...
-I checked the error_log; the error is SCRIPT NOT FOUND or UNABLE TO STAT

Still not working and i'm now out of ideas

Thanks for good will !

Check out www.e-smith.org.   There are some hints on customizing your e-smith installation.  Hopefully this will help.

i've got the same problem.  cgi's work in the primary, but don't execute properly in an ibay.  error 500, Internal Server Error.

i've done exactly everything the same in ..primary/cgi-bin as i did in ..ibay/cgi-bin
yet, does not perform as expected.

i'm using 3.1, no mods.  dedicated access.

would it help if i allow cgi's to execute within any folder?  what are the ramifications?

fred, have you got your's to work?  any advice much appreciated

thanks
