Is is just email addresses you want to migrate, or user account names as well? For email addresses, you can set them up using the email alias add-on RPM (for the e-smith 4.0 beta series) to be found at
http://e-smith.gormand.com.au/4.0-preview/. If it is user account names, then you would need to customise the e-smith code to change the accepted patterns for account names. Have a look at the documentation at
http://www.e-smith.org/, and ask for advice on the developer mailing list. You might also get some advice on how to do a bulk addition of user accounts - I wouldn't like to sit at the web interface keying in the details for 3000 accounts if I could avoid it.
