Anyone have info regarding SME 5.6?
« on: January 14, 2003, 10:30:00 PM »
This month I am preparing IT goals for my agency for 2003.  I use 5 SME 5.1.2 boxes currently.  If 5.6 will be final and available, I will include upgrading SME this year.  Hopefully someone knows if 5.6 will be a final version soon?  Any information is appreciated.

Thanks,

Ryan

The commercial version is already releases, although the GPL version i expect to be released soon as soon as Beta testing is done--currently Beta7.

My gut tells me it is coming soon - next few weeks, but I have no concrete info regarding this. The Mitel gang says that it is all ready and that when they have some 'free' time they will release the development version - perhaps with some new updates. This at least breathes some hope.

[Before I get censured....I'm not complaining just adding my 0.02.]

This is from a post by Dan York...

" Exactly. The fact of the matter is that since we finished the 5.6 release for our commercial customers back in November, we have just simply not had the time to issue the GPL release. Basically all of the packages have been available for quite some time now in the form of 5.6beta7. We just have to roll those up into an ISO image and make it available. There are now also some updates that we will include as well.

I can state that there will be a 5.6 developer release and that it will occur sometime in the weeks ahead. Exactly when depends upon the workload of our development team and the resources required to address opportunites presented to us by commercial customers. But it will be there... stay tuned. "

Dan

To activate the hyperlink mechanism on a Phorum-powered forum then use...
http://linker
...but as you can see above it doesn't work this forum;~/ Think the forum code needs bringing up to date.Mine is running v3.4-RC without any dire issues and it certainly does respond to the hyperlink activation clauses above:-)

I (and many others) experienced an error upgrading machnines with 64MB RAM and I reported this as a bug to Mitel.  They acknowledged that there is a problem upgrading SME Server with less than the minimum requirement for RAM.  (They told me in an e-mail that it's now roughly 256MB).  Backup, perform a fresh install, and restore.  It worked for me.

Didn't realise that there was a minimum memory requirement... FWIW I ran a fresh install, over the top of an existing v5.5, on my ancient test box which has only 64Mb of memory (EDO ram as I vaguely recall). Completed the install successfully enough. I haven't yet had any quality time with it;~/
