Problems upgrading from 5.1.2 to 5.6
« on: January 27, 2003, 03:25:07 PM »
G'day,

Does anyone have any idea how to interpret an upgrade crash (5.1.2 to 5.6) with the message "memory allocation (12 bytes) returned NULL" just after the dependencies check and during the preparation to upgrade period in a system that is otherwise stable?

I just find it hard to believe that there is a herware memory fault in this box and I would like to canvas for ideas before I try a clean install.

Thanks and cheers,
Andrew.

I (and many others) experienced this same errorand I reported this as a bug to Mitel.  They acknowledged that there is a problem upgrading SME Server with less than the minimum requirement for RAM.  (They told me in an e-mail that it's now roughly 256MB).  Backup, perform a fresh install, and restore.  It woked for me.

G'day Brian,

Thanks for the definative answer.  My little server has only 64MB of RAM and I doubt I will do anything to beef that up - although if there is any cheap EDO RAM at the swapmeet on Sunday I may think about it.

Looks like your suggestion of a clean install is the go.

Thanks for your advice.

Cheers,
A.
