Topic: Initial Login to e-smith server

I have just installed the e-smith server and by all accounts it is working just fine.  Only one thing I wish I could do.

That is login to the server from my Windoze machine and setup accounts and such.

my machine name is
152.51.61.41 and I can telnet to port3128 as well as see the server on the network browser in Windoze.

However I cannot access the 152.51.61.41/e-smith-manager applications.

What am I doing wrong?

You can connect to your e-smith server and create accounts, in your browser connect to your internal address of the e-smith server (usually 192.168.1.1) use the url below

http://192.168.1.1/e-smith-manager

that will do it.

If that doesn't work, you may be the victum of an common cabling error whereas your internal network is physically plugged into the ethernet card that e-smith thinks should be used for your internet connection and vice versus.  I (and many of my compodres) have had the same problem as there is really no EASY way of figuring out which is which (unless they have built a way into e-smith 4 somehow).

the easy way to test this is to simply swap the network cables and see if you can log in to the e-smith-manager then.

Somebody correct me if I am wrong but if you are able to telnet into squid on port 3128 then you are connecting to the internal interface of the firewall, for IIRC squid is setup to only bind to the internal interface. (ie the nics are not around the wrong way)

I might be able to help you out if you could give me a little more information. For example,
   basic configuration details:
     - version
     - parameters chosen
   browser related error messages:
     - any 404 messages
     - are you even prompted for a username/passwd
   output from log files
     - /var/log/messages
     - error/access log messages in /var/log/httpd

Normally, from within your local network you should be able to access the e-smith web-based manager by going to:
   192.168.1.1/e-smith-manager
   then enter "admin" for the username and "default" or whatever password you may have specified.

Feel free to send any log output and we can have a look and see whats going on.
