5.6 Install Problem
« on: February 10, 2003, 07:28:55 PM »
Hi!

I amtrying to install 5.6 to a Compaq Deskpro 4000 and keep getting the same error message:

Traceback (innermost last):
  File "/usr/bin/anaconda", line 634, in ?
    intf.run(id, dispatch, configFileData)
  File "/usr/lib/anaconda/text.py", line 412, in run
    rc = apply(win, (self.screen, ) + args)
  File "/usr/lib/anaconda/textw/mitel_text.py", line 537, in __call__
    db = rpm.opendb(0, id.instPath)
rpm.error: cannot open

I've already downloaded the 5.6 .iso image from three different sites (ftp.e-smith.org, ftp.ibilio.org, and ftp.sme-server.nl) thinking it was a bad image but to no avail.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.....

Regards,
Evan Inker

Had the same problem. I think it has something to do with the previous debian installation I was running. The setup routine seems to have problem writing (or reading) from those old partition.
On my system (Compaq Deskpro EN) I finally had succes when I erased all partition on disk prior to lunching the E-smith setup. Good luck.

I am trying to do a fresh install of 5.6unsupported.

The CD finally rsynced up OK last night from a local mirror and returns the correct md5sum.

Then I had the e-smith over debian problem which is solved by flushing the mbr.
http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=6766.msg24325#msg24325

But now I get about 60% of the way through the install and get a message about:
"The file mnt/source/e-smith/RPMS/readline-4.2a-4.i386.rpm cannot be opened. This is due to a missing file, a bad package or bad media. Press (return) to try again."

Burning another CD has produced the same message and trying on a different hard drive has made no difference. The rpm looks OK on the CD to me.

I have now exhausted my knowledgebase.

Help appreciated.
