Topic: Reserving static ip v5.6

Hey all.
Have had a bit of a problem after an upgrade from 5.5v2 to 5.6 with static ip's. One of the NIC's on my network blew up sometime after the upgrade. It was a machine that had an address reserved for it - 192.168.0.17 and had the MAC address put in the table too. I obviously replaced the card, but wanted to keep the static ip but had to modify the settings in the 'hostnames and addresses' option of the server manager. However I was unable to do this and kept getting the message :

Address is inside the DHCP assigned dynamic range

I tried deleting the computer from the table and starting afresh - no luck, same problem. I then tried an ip outside the range (range is set 192.168.0.5 - 192.168.0.244) and it worked ok. So I'm stumped...

Anyone got any ideas?

I have the same problem If we want to reserve an IP we usualy do this inside the DHCP pool - strange or is this is new aproach in 5.6 ?!

Static IPs need to be outside the DHCP range, or they could get dynamically assigned also.

Please READ and UNDERSTAND scenario before replaying !!!

I must connect my Notebook at at least two locations. On both locations are SME servers acting as DHCP servers, but they are using different IP-class and POOL for DHCP !!! For security reasons my PC must have special IP assigned becouse this IPs are only allowed to admin SME and other servers. So here is what I want :

1. At firts location I want IP1 assigned to my Note (based on MAC address)

2. At second location I want IP2 assigned to my Note (based on same MAC address, but different IP)

Assigning static IPs on every move is out of the question !? If Windoze NT server included DHCP server can do this, dhcpd can do this 100%. Question is HOW ???

So, you think we're going to be extra nice if you're yelling at us?  The answer is very simple: set up each IP in the respective SME server, in the hostnames and addresses panel.  This IP cannot be within the DHCP address range.  RT*M (http://edocs.mitel.com/6000_SME_Server/6000_MAS_rls5.6/Admin_Guide_html_EN/admin-hostnames.html#admin-hostnames-dhcp to be specific) for more information.

Thanks for the reply. I always thought that you could reserve IP's that are within the DHCP range, but I guess not!
No biggy. Have changed the range to start at 192.168.0.20, and stuff is fine now.

Andrej, yes, using caps is also considered yelling, but the excessive punctuation comes across that way as well.  In any case, you should be able to do what you're looking for with the hostnames and addresses panel--if not, let us know what's not working (and what's happening instead), and maybe somebody can help you.

Mike, with previous releases, you could use an IP within the dhcp range, but that doesn't seem to be possible with 5.6.
