ICQ?

Hello,

I have e-smith up and running.  Everthing works great except for ICQ.  What do I need to do to get ICQ running.  I have read many topics which talk about port forwarding and such but I'm completly lost.  Any help would be great.  Thanks,

ok so what are you talking about? You want to run ICQ on a computer that is on the network with e-smith as a gateway? If this is the case it should work right out of the box, if you want to transfer files you will need to set a port range in ICQ which is i think between 2000-6000 or something along those lines. But ICQ messaging should work just fine.

Thanks for the fast response.  I'll explain my situation and hopefully you will be able to help.  I have e-smith server (4.0b7) with three windows 98 computers connected.  All three computers can surf the internet but Outlook cannot access the rogers @home external e-mail server, using mail server's ip address.  As well they cannot to icq, mirc or to any ftps.  I am not exactly sure why this is, I find it weird that I can surf the net with IE 5 and not have any other service work.  Thank you for your help.

I think the most likely problem is with windows. Are you sure you have all the network settings entered correctly. The most important would be gateway 192.168.1.1 or whatever you set it to. And also the DNS search order stuff, and your host and domain name. E-smith sounds like it is doing its job perfectly.

Hey Michael,
I also have actually 4 windows machines running through my e-smith s/g 4.0b7 and I have not had the trouble you describe.  Are you running it as a dedicated server?

Yes I have it as a dedicated server.  I have the windows machines receive their information through DHCP on the e-smith server, should I input the network information by hand into each of the machines??  DId you have to make any special changes to software, ie ICQ or Outlook, to get them to function through e-smith?

Thanks for your help, tbsutton and Palisadian

Appendix 5 in the manual has some information on this and I think I saw something in the FAQ's.

Make sure you are not using the proxy server.

I also have some problems with ICQ. To send and recive messages works fine, but  recive Files transfere fails. I run Icq on two PC's in my net and non of them will work with file transfere. How do i solve this?
