Gateway IP
« on: March 13, 2003, 01:47:52 AM »
Hi,

I have a problem using a ipsec vpn with adsl, I have used the ipsec vpn successfully with dial up, but I think the problem is when I check at the server-manager the review configuration in the gateway ip in the dial up there is always an  IP but whe I connect to the adsl the gateway ip is blank. so I think that's the data I need to do the vpn.
Is there a way I can knoy that IP and where can I put so it appears in the gateway Ip space?
Any help would be great.

Thanks

Sergio

There is a differnt configuration screen, depending on which type of service you have.
For example:
In Configure this server, for server and gateway dedicated,
on the External Interface Configuration page, if you select the static IP choice, you should see provision to enter rthe static IP and gateway IP, which would generally be supplied by your ISP if you get the modem preconfigured from them, or otherwise as you have configured the modem yourself.

Hope this helps

Ray,
Thank you for the advice.
I'm using (2)SME.5  5U3 my adsl service uses pppoe, it works fine for internet access (so I think I can not use the static IP choice because I need authentication, can't I). But I had tryed to configure a vpn between this two SMEs (using Darrel May howto). I did a test with this two servers using dial up connection and they worked perfect. But when I wanted to do the same thing using adsl they didn't work at all. I noticed that in the review configuration menu in the server-manger there was not an IP in the Gateway space like when using a dial up.
I check this IP with the ifconfig an route commands, but I don't know where I can place this Gateway IP so it can appear in the gateway space of the review configuration panel. Maybe thats the thing missing for the vpn to work ?
Well I'm readin the NET-HowTo to see if I found some way .
Thanks

I have the same problem and I find one "solution". I add the GatewayIP=VALUE in the file /home/e-smith/configuration. But I'am looking for a best solution...
