Hi Folks,

i have many problems to get a working connect with my ISP !

For the dialup i would use an external US Robotics Sportster 33.6......!
Yes, it´s not the fastest....but for short email transfer it seems to be ok !


The greatest Problem is the correct Init for this Modem !

If made many trys to modifi the settings.......but it doesen´t work.

What logfiles did you need to fit my problem ?

Who could help me out........the test are very nervy

Hi, I'm not a German user of e-smith, but maybe I can still be of some help here. Here's a webpage containing the init-string of your modem: http://www.shiva.com/prod/ccl/us288336.html
If you want to change the settings of your server accordingly, make sure you edit the right file. The file you want to edit for your modem's init-string and dialup-string is:
/etc/e-smith/templates/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/chat-ppp0
This is the template-file for /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/chat-ppp0. If you try to edit the latter file, on reboot it will be overruled by the template-file and revert to its original state. After you edit said template file, you should execute the following commands:
/sbin/e-smith/signal-event console-save (this will save changes to template)
/sbin/shutdown -r now (reboot to make changes take effect)
P.S. Initially I also had some trouble to get my modem to work. I found that commenting out the line 'ABORT' 'NO CARRIER' (i.e. put # in front of it) in the same template-file as above solved all my problems.

Hallo again,

all my test´s were corrupted. The modem starts to dial now,
but when the connect shut be finished suddenly the modem
hangs up. Could a wrong authorisation the reason.....?
