Topic: AMD DURON with SME

I recently acquired a new processor and motherboard that I was thinking of using to upgrade my sme mail server. The mother board is a SOYO and the Processor is a AMD Duron.

I was looking all over the e-smith site to find system requirements and could not find them. Does anyone know if the sme runs ok on a AMD Duron? All the other SME boxes I have running are running on Intel.

hmm - i have now tryed 4 times to install sme on an AMD Duron with no luck...

It install's fine, and runs from 3 - 24 Hrs. and then breke down with a messag saing somting about "process id # responded too fast, and is disabled for 5 minuts" or somthin like that... and this continue, when the dispension is cancled after this 5 minuts then there only goes around 30 sec. and it is a problem again...

Soo i have just bought a new P4 intel prosesor and matching motherboard...

Thats just my expirince with sme and AMD.....

Have a site with a Duron - no problems (except for the heat).

I have done a couple of sites with 1gig durons which have been running for the past six months with no problems whatsoever

I don't think this is a Duron issue. I thought it had come up before, but I can't find the post in a quick search.

The CPU is rarely the culprit in compatibility problems, I've found. Most often the problem is with the chipset (which in a way is somewhat CPU-dependant). In case you weren't aware, the Duron is the same thing as an Athlon minus a little cache. So you should look at Athlon implementations too. It will be a little slower, but the core is the same.

Thanks for the feedback... I think I may give it a shot, if all else fails I can just restore the backup back on the old machine.
