Keyboard settings, ...

Hi there,

first of all I must say that I find the e-smith server and gateway a superb product. Especially the 4.0 beta version (with the PHP extension). I am running a small server here, and I have a couple of users who have their personal homepage (virtual domans in Apache).

I have just 2 simple questions:
1: Is there a possiblity to chose a keyboard layout during install??? We don't use Qwerty keyboards in our country!!!
2: I was wandering how it could be possible to survive this internet market when everything is for free??? E-smith is for free, isn't it???

TIA,

Ed.,

Thanks for your encouragement! Lots of people have worked hard on the e-smith product.

We'll be working hard at internationalization in future versions.

The e-smith software can be downloaded for free, and that will always be true. However, many small businesses don't have the technical skills to download our software, burn a CD and set up their own network.

For those customers we offer a complete "e-smith solution" including media, technical support, upgrades (and other services under development).  That is a solid revenue source; we are priced competitively with equivalent solutions based on Microsoft Small Business Server.

You can help by spreading the word! If you know of small businesses that are looking for complete server solutions please let them know about us!

Best regards,

Thank you, it's nce of you to say so:

If you would like to experiment, you can delete the "keyboard" line in the file ks.cfg on the boot floppy, and you will be presented with the familiar RedHat keyboard choice dialog. I've
no idea how well that will work with your system, however. Let me know how it works for you.

As Joseph said, internationalization is further down the development track.

Charlie,

It worked on the 4.0 B7 version!!! But I didn't test it on the B8 version, as it reads his cfg file from the CD!

My keyboard is in AZERTY now!!

Thanks,
