Topic: MySQL - where is it?

As a newbie, I am doing a tutorial for PHP and MySQL. In line with one of the lessons, I need to put some code into "the MySQL directory". I understand this to be /var/lib/mysql/. The trouble is I cannot find the directory.

I have two client desktops connected to my E-Smith Linux box. One is WIN/XP and one is Linux Mandrake. When I access my server from either desk top the above directory is not displayed. The Windows desktop shows cgi-bin, html and files directories on the server, while the MDK desktop shows a couple of directories I set up and some php code that I saved.

All I want to do is to put some code in the MySQL directory - can someone tell me how to get to it?

Hi Malcolm,

Log into your SME console as "root" instead of "admin," using the same password. You'll get a root prompt.  MySql will be right where you think it should be, /var/lib/mysql.

If you are at the server consol just hit F2 and that will put you at the login prompt go ahead and login and you type mc hit enter that will put you in midnight commander so you can search for the file you need and you can even edit it from there
