i have been havng a problem with FTP'ing into my e-smith box.

I have searched the web and asked in this forum.  

it's all very well saying, that'll be ident - search this forum as it's been discussed many times but that didn;t help me because after many hours I have still not got an answer.

anyway - in my proftpd.conf file it says ident off

even the proftpd website tells you to turn of ident and UseReverseDNS if you experiennce slow login but it dont tell you haw to do that...

hep would be greatly appreciated in finding out how I can speed up login to my ftp server

What version of SME and updates?  There was a problem with slow logins on 5.1.2 if I remember correctly, it did get resolved with an update...

My 5.5 U3 works fine for ftp login...

have you checked the basics is ftp "turned on" in your server manager panel

I have not had any problems after upgrading but had none before after setting access in the server manager panel
