Is e-smith the right solutions for me?

I have been looking for at true MS alternative. Espcially Exchangeserver.

It is difficult for me to get an overview on the e-smith features. I will use a seperate firewall, so this function is not important for me, but I would like to know the following things:

1) Will e-smith be able to run as an NT domain controller (SAMBA) and have MS clients log on to this?

2) Will e-smith run as an Exchangeserver - with Outlook as a client being able to use inbox, calender, contacts, public folders...?

3) What about services like DHCP, WINS, DNS...?

Regards, Lars.

It will do 1) and 3) "out of the box", but not as full exchange server.
Where is web based groupware (twiggi) for colaboration, but Outlook as a client (with public folders, calendar etc) works only with very few Exchange-replacements (samsung contact, bynari connector etc..)

Thank you for your quick reply.

What is Samsung Contacts and binary connector? Are they under GNU?

The Colaboration... is this a sort of conferencing server?

Samsung contacts and bynari (yes, that's spelled correctly) are both commercial software.  They will allow you to use Outlook as a client to handle a calendar, tasks, etc.

Another possibility is to use a web-based system.  Twiggi is one possibility; horde is another.  Horde includes IMP and Turba (which are included with SME as the mail and contacts applications, respectively), as well as Kronolith (calendar), Nag (tasks), and Mnemo (memos/notes), of which I've built packages for use with SME 5.6.
