dialing my new isp?
« on: June 26, 2000, 06:22:45 PM »
After using one ISP for nearly a year I need to change to another, which I can do with no problems on a win98 box.

Both ISPs use PAP and ppp as normal.

a cut-out of the /var/log/message file is below: I hope someone will be able to help.
It's all over my head :).

The only changes I have made between ISPs is The phone number, the username and password. DNS also..

These changes I have done through the e-smith front-end.

THANK-YOU

Hi there.
Just a couple of questions first....

Did the new ISP give you an ip address and gateway to enter or did they specify to use a DHCP server?

No Static IP address.
A Pri DNS of 203.2.75.2 and a Sec of 203.2.75.12

It works fine with one of those silly Microsoft boxes :)

Any help would be great :)

Hi again.  check on the Windows machine under the start/run/winipcfg and under the advanced button, see if the windows machine is using a dhcp server.  If it is, make sure that the e-smith server is configured to use a DHCP server (in the e-smith console under configuration, DHCP server should be set to on).

If not, make note of the ip address/subnet mask and gateway the windows machine is using.  You will need to place these in the e-smith console configuration.  Only if DHCP server is not being used....

Erin.
