DNS and domain logon
« on: April 18, 2003, 12:19:09 AM »
hello i am still having problems with logging onto my domain on the internal network from windows onto the SME server.

if i do a nslookup in cmd.exe i can see that the DNS isnt working, however it gets somewhere because it knows the IP (or it just knows it because its the gateway(i dont know :P))

this is the result:

C:\Documents and Settings\eddy>nslookup
*** Can't find server name for address 192.168.22.2: Non-existent domain
*** Default servers are not available
Default Server:  UnKnown
Address:  192.168.22.2

> e-studio17.net
Server:  UnKnown
Address:  192.168.22.2

*** UnKnown can't find e-studio17.net: Non-existent domain
>

My SME server connects to the inter by a Alcatel speedtouch 510 router which supplies DHCP to the SME server, therefore giving the external NIC an IP of 10.0.0.1 and the router knows the server is connected.

back to the point... does anyone know what could be wrong? is there a way to force windows to know that IP of 192.168.22.2 is the domain controller ? or is it a samba problem that it doesnt know that it is the domain controller for e-studio17.net .
plz help!! :D

could it be that i need to run a DNS server on the SME server? if so what is the industry standard server for DNS?
As below kind of suggests that i need to get a server name for the 192.168.22.2 IP.
C:\Documents and Settings\eddy>nslookup e-studio17.net
*** Can't find server name for address 192.168.22.2: Non-existent domain
*** Default servers are not available
Server:  UnKnown
Address:  192.168.22.2

Non-authoritative answer:
Name:    e-studio17.net
Address:  213.208.108.114
