1. Email
I have 3 user accounts with IMAP folders. Each user has one or 2 POP accounts that I want to be cleared at the server level directly into their IMAP account. How?
>> I haven't messed much with the email portion as of yet due to I have another server handeling email. I will have to let someone else answer this one for you.
2. Remote Access
I saw the message regarding 'chsh' to allow regular users to connect to their home directory. I have no idea about how to even open a console window. The extent I have got to is connecting to the server via
http://www.elvis/server-manager>> Users internally can map to a folder by doing a \server-name\folder-name for an iBay or user account. They can ftp to the server externally and the username is the name of the iBay and whatever the password set for it is. When you create a user the folder is located under /home/e-smith/files/users and they too can map thir folder as above internally and ftp as above.
To open a console window remotely you will need to enable remote access and use a remote software such as putty. You can download off my site at
https://www.technut.netYou have 2 options of login. You can either login as root and use the administration password you set or you can login as admin and the administration password you set.
3. Backup
I have a cd writer on one network PC (win98 for the moment). How can I use this to backup. I am prepared for this to be a manual process, ie ftp from server & burn. Backup email (IMAP), home directories, ibays (whatever an IBAY is)
>> When doing a back up you can back up to the desktop and then you will be able to download the file and save it to cd or on another drive. The desktop back up backsup the following: All user accounts, user directories, iBay content, web content, as well as the configuration parameters entered by using the server console and server-manager panel.
An iBay is generally used for virtual hosting.
4. General Usage
How to install files (open console window mentioned above)
>> To install a program you need to login as root and then depending on the file type will depend. The commands to install a file vary depending on the file type. I would suggest looking on line for linux installation commands. Usually there will be a set of instructions as a readme.txt with the command string.
Hope this helps out some.
