Sounds as though SME isn't writing the boot sector correctly. If you don't mind trying everything again, get the drive utilities from the manufacturer of your SME box's hard drive & wipe the drive COMPLETELY (typically this will be something like "write zeroes"). You might also boot from a Windows boot disk & do the ever-useful "fdisk /mbr" to clean up the boot record (SME will overwrite, of course). I'd look at getting your system's BIOS up to date also.
