Topic: upgrade 5.1.2 to 5.5 anaconda error

I tried upgrading from 5.1.2 to 5.5 and received an error from the installer, anaconda.
smebugs say it is because I have a 2nd hdd and anaconda cannot handle this...
if this is so, I can remove the 2nd hdd, then how do I 'clean' the error or rewrite 'correct' partition information somewhere for anaconda to read OK, and get SME to upgrade to either 5.5 or 5.6 OK?
I can always install the 2nd hdd if I need it later on. It is only there at the moment to get some files from a previous installation, and just got left there...
any help would be appreciated.
