Topic: What Port with SME ?

I have just added the RPM for port forwarding. Changed the Windows port to 22. What port should I set the SME server to ?

Depends what port you are trying to forward.

For example you want to forward all packets on port 1234 to an windows machin on the internal network then you would setup 1234 to forward to the ip of the windows machine.

Why are you forwarding port 22 for, it is used for ssh? If you do this then you probably will not be able to use shh to access the SME box

Cyrus,

I have two machines networked. The primary is a windows machine and the secondary is the SME server. I have read that in order to do a dynamic Ip address I would have to either make the SME server the primary or forward the port. I have no clue as to what port to forward and which one it might be. Help......

Dynamic IP for internal or external IP?

Which box is the gateway?

1. Via a router
2. The computer connected to the router is the windows. The SME server is connected wireless
3. Dynamic IP externally
4. The server is the gateway ( i think )

OK,

So the router connects to the inetrnet and shares it, now the windows machine is connected to that and then the SME is connected wirelessly to the windows machine.

ok well the dynamic IP stuff will have to be dealt with by the router? I am sorry I cannt help you there......??

Now what exactly are you trying to do with the SME?

OK Well, taking a wild stab in the dark, you will probably have to look at doing these things:

1. Port forward from router to windows box
2. Port forward from windows box to SME
3. Port forward from SME to windows
4. Port forward from windows to router

So really on the SME you just have to make sure that port 21 (ftp) is forwarded to the windows box:

Internet -----> router -----> windows -----> SME

Internet <----- router <----- windows <---- SME

Hmmm i dont know really, sorry, but I am wondering why you have set it up the way you have, really (my opinion) you should have something like this:

Internet ----> Router ----> SME ----> Windows

but have a look at your router manuals and documentation you should be able to find some instructions on ho to port forward.

But if you are actually using your router as a bridge and actually connecting with the windows machine, then just setup the SME instead of the windows?
