backup2workstation problems
« on: June 04, 2003, 08:15:13 AM »
Hi All,
I have installed Darrell May's backup to workstation rpm but I can't seem to get it to work! I have set the everything as per the examples in server-manager (obviously using the correct folder and ibay names where appropriate), if I click on backup it says it will start in a few minutes and an email will be sent to admin when it is finished. I get the email to say it is complete, but there is nothing in the shared folder on the windows workstation. Any ideas? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Del

Del,

Have you checked the log to see if there was any error messages, it can be found /var/log/backup2ws/{jobname}.log ?

Other than that it seems wierd that you get the email, but there is nothing in the share?

Do you have a number set for the "Expiry" field for the backup job which specifies how many old backups are retained. If its O, maybe thats the problem ??

Hi Cyrus, Hi Ray,

Yes I had got the expiry set to 0, but it still didn't help. Could it be that I am trying to backup to a second HDD in the windows machine? I have created a shared folder on the "C" drive called backup and it seems to work OK, but not when I try to use a shared folder on the "D" drive (the secondary HDD). I will delete the folder and all the backup jobs when I get home and start again and I will post the results here.
Thanks for all your help,
Del

Try setting it to a number, NOT to 0.

If it works Ok then your procedure is cortrect.

I have 2 drives in my W2K workstation and I can backup to either, as long as the drive is shared as a network share it should be OK. You will need to modify your backup job though to backup to the other share location.

Just try a small job say /root or /opt only for test purposes, it should finish very quickly after starting ie less than 1 minute.
