FYI

Printing in W2K and SME 5.6

Problem:
I was having problems to print to an HP-Deskjet printer from  Windows 2000 Professional. I installed the printer by going to \servername and double-clicking on the shared printer. It asked me for the printer driver which I installed manually. After this I was getting the "Access denied, unable to connect" message but I was able to print. Print jobs took forever to print even with the setting to "Print directly to the printer" (no spooling). Also the printer queue was never emptied and I have to refresh it manually to see the status of the print jobs.

Solution:
After trying different ways this one worked for me.
1. Installed the printer locally (LPT port)
2. Added a new port using  UNC, \servername\printername in the printer port settings.
3. Set the printer to print directly to the printer in the advance settings.

That fixed all my problems described above.

I hope this help others with printing issues.

Had the same issue.  I have mix home network (W2K,WinXPpro,Win98SE, SME6.0B3 Wired/Wireless).  The solution hits the mark.  Thanks Antonio.

Thanks, I will try that. I am using a HP 'all-in-1' with the deskjet 600c driver with all the problems you describe. Works sometimes other times it doesnt play.
