I don't get it.

the index page for www/ is in /home/e-smith/files/Primary/html

so I place a folder in the html folder with some gif files

when I try to access it via either www.hostname/www/folder/test.gif

or www/folder/test.gif

I get a 403 forbidden message.

anyone got an idea?

Sounds like a permissions problem.

I kinda figured but I'm not sure what to set for what.

I can create a folder and put an htm or html files in there and they work fine, but I can't access any other files.

if I go to www/test/test3.html it pulls up the test page no problem . . but img tags come up with red X and I can't directly access the files.

OK that problem is straightened out, but now I can't find perl.  trying to execute a cgi script and it's not working.

went to check for perl at /usr/bin/perl and there is no such directory.  I'm using 5.5  can someone tell me where perl is.  I've poked around and can't find anything.

nevermind.  I moved to a new forum software with more detailed instructions about setting permissions on folders and files and it's fine now.
