Topic: Outgoing mail stays in queue forever.

I was using SME server 5.6 and was able to send mails without any problems. Just upgraded the system to SME 6.0 beta 1 and now all my outgoing mails are staying in the remote queue forever. I use the qmail queue management program and this shows that all my remote mails are in the queue. Even forcing the mail to be resend does not work. Tried 'service smtpfront-qmail staus' and this shows the following message '/service/smtpfront-qmail: up (pid 1622) xxxx seconds, normally down'. Tried rebooting the server, but the mail still sits in the remote queue and does not seem to budge from there. Mail for the local network gets delivered immediately. I'm new to Linux and have managed to get the server working without any problems so far, until the upgrade. Would appreciate any help here.

I have had similar experiance with 5.6 setup to send mail through my isps smtp server, where it would occaisionaly not see the smtp.myisp.com eventhough the client pc's could and the server could see other internet sites/address'. I had to add an extra external dns server into the setup, which seems to have fixed the problem.

Not sure if it will help but hey-ho!

I have a seperate firewall/router and my sme box is just in the lan.

The problem I was having was similar to yours, the sme box wasn't sending the mail yet if I told my win2k box to use the isp server direct instead of the sme box it worked fine. From the sme box I could ping www.novell.com etc but if I tried to ping smtp.myisp.com it was not found.

When I put a dns server that belonged to my isp (public dns server) in the settings in the sme box from configure your server, (the master dns server option i think) it worked fine with no problems since.
