To upgrade from 5.1 to 5.6 is necesary to apply updates 5.5 and then 5.6 or directly 5.6

The 5.6 release notes state:

"Upgrades from SME Server 5.0/5.1.x/5.5 are auto-detected. Upgrades from e-smith 4.1.2 are also auto-detected. Upgrades from previous e-smith versions are not supported."

Based on this information, you should be able to go from 5.1 to 5.6 directly, and bypass 5.5

I jumped straight from 5.1.2 to 5.6, and it worked fine.

Just curious about the PPTP issues in 5.6.  I know at some point people were having issues with PPTP in 5.6 - have these issues been fixed?

I'm trying to decide on using 5.5 or 5.6 - but have to have stable PPTP VPN.

Thoughts?

My understanding is that the patch to fix the PPTP issues does so by removing the templates which allow for outgoing PPTP connections. So it's fixed if all you want is incoming connections, but if you want to be able to make outgoing connections also it won't work and you should stick with 5.5.
