Hello All,

Can anybody tell me what is going wrong here.

DUMP: Date of this level 0 dump: Sun Jul 13 13:56:08 2003
DUMP: Dumping /dev/hda6 (/) to standard output
DUMP: Added inode 7 to exclude list (resize inode)
  DUMP: Label: /
DUMP: mapping (Pass I) [regular files]
  DUMP: mapping (Pass II) [directories]
  DUMP: estimated 1360266 tape blocks.
DUMP: Volume 1 started with block 1 at: Sun Jul 13 14:00:57 2003
  DUMP: dumping (Pass III) [directories]
DUMP: dumping (Pass IV) [regular files]
buffer (writer): write of data failed: Input/output error
bytes to write=10240, bytes written=-1, total written          0K
  DUMP: Broken pipe
DUMP: The ENTIRE dump is aborted.

This is the email I receive upon backup. It appears as thought the backup is unable to write to the tape. Any thoughts or advice would be a great help/

What brand and type of tape drive?  Is the drive new, or has it worked before?  Does using a different tape work?  Does the backup fail everytime with this particular tape in question?  (Bad tape).  I have had this type of error before and it has always pointed to a bad tape.

It is a OnStream ADR2 60GB Digital Tape Drive. I will try a new tape.Perhaps, though, the Drive is not supported.

There is some info at www.myezserver.com that talks about an onstream DI 30.  A quick search from the forums has a thread about someone trying to use an onstream USB30 with not much luck.  I'm not going to be of much help to you after the info you provided.  Sorry.
