powstatd.conf is templated, Ray, and the configuration information is in the config database. There's no need to keep that file. Just do:
/sbin/e-smith/expand-template /etc/powstatd.conf
after reinstalling powstatd.
But I expect there's no point in reinstalling powstatd - there's some other problem. It seems that "powstatd -t" is failing because it is already running. Marco doesn't say why he is running "powstatd -t". That's usually only required to determine the correct configuration of a new UPS.
