Virtual Hosts Not Serving
« on: August 22, 2003, 07:04:18 AM »
HI,

I have SME5.6 set up as a server only.
The primary site hosts just fine and all
virtual hosts come up fine on the local
network.
The virtual domains however, can't be
reached from the internet. I just get
a 404 page not found.

I do have the server behind a firewal router.
Is this where the problem is?

Thanks a bunch.

Ron

Scott,

You need to set up your server as a server and gateway.  Its the gateway option that sets up the server to serve web pages to the internet.

You will also have to tell your server that there is a firewall between your server and the internet.

These are all standard options in the setup routine.

Regards and I hope this helps

Hi Ron.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind.
I just plugged up a second ethernet
and connected the server directly
to the modem.

The router at this point is an
overpriced hub, but it's working.
And the fact that I purchased the
router a few years ago means
I'm not realy losing any value.
I figured this to be the easiest way
to get the virtual sites working.
I am considering plugging the local
net ether into the wan port of the
router which would give me a
double firewall and really chease
anyone who actually was able to
hack the sme5.6 server.

I have 5 static IPs, how
would I configure the server to
look at those other IPs?
Or are those other IPs pretty
much wasted since sbc uses
pppOe.?

Thanks for the Help.

Thanks all,

Today I successfuly sent an
email to one of my virtual
domains indicating that
all is resolving correctly.

One of the things I did was
to add a second nic to the
server and connect it directly
to the modem. Then I simply
let the dhcp server on the
machine do the rest.

Thanks for your help.
