Moving directory
« on: August 31, 2003, 07:17:09 PM »
Hi,

I need to move my EZMLM directory to my home directory so I can copy it to another hdd for my new SME 6.0 installation.  What is the easiest command to do this, and are there any problems in doing this/restoring it to a new system?

Thanks,
Andrew.

Use Midnight Commander (a Norton Commander clone), mc at the command prompt!

Hi,

Thanks, this works to a point.

I have managed to copy the directory to my home dir, then I have the problem of copying it off the SME disk, because of permitions.  Is there a simple way of getting the ezmlm directory from the SME disk to my backup disk on my XP system, then doing a reformat of the SME box, then just copying the EZMLM directory back over?

Copy the folder to your website (primary) folder then using Network neighborhood under Windows browse to this folder (pre-supposes that you are logged into your system as Admin or a root level user otherwise it may ask you to authenticate) then just copy to your Windows system.

Have you tried WINSCP at http://winscp.sourceforge.net/eng/

Hi all,

Ok, I ahve tried a few things, and have reached the following conclusions:

Using the Windows SCP client only partially works since I have the old Qmail style split files for subscribers, so for example /lists/daisy-users/subscribers/a and /lists/daisy-users/subscribers/A are two different files, but won't transfer properly in Windows, meaning that my Windows idea is up the spout.

What I am now looking to do is to see if I can create a .tar.gz file similar to the desktop backup but only include the ezmlm directory in this backup, either by modifying the backup script or by entering in the required commands by hand, has anyone got any tips on doing this?

Hi,

I managed to get it working in the end by the following method:

1.  Create a desktop backup in the normal way.
2.  Reload SME.
3.  Copy backup to a share.
4.  Go into root and uncompress the backup into a directory off the share.
5.  Use MC to copy the relevant files/directories accros, then delete the old files you just uncompressed.
6.  Working installation !

Thanks,
Andrew.
