2 Workgroups on same domain

Hello.

We currently have two separate networks for staff and students, each controled by a sme server. One network (staff) is connected to the net.

What I would like to do is join the two networks, still maintaining some sense of separatness, and enable any computer on the network to either log into the staff or student domain. So when they are asked to log in by windows xp they can choose staff or student.

I would assume that it can be done.

My plan is to set-up a test senario with two servers (one as gateway and one as server only) and try to log into both with one client.

Can anyone see any issues with this? cheers

If you have trusted Microsoft domains, they will appear as options at logon.  SME domains will be independent PDCs, and 2k or XP can't be a member of two domains.  You might find some workablilty with the hardware profiles...but that is really just a guess on my part.  The hardware profile is choosen before Windows is fully loaded.

good luck

You Can "Add" Multiple domains under 2k and Xp workstations through a registry fix.  I had to do this on my Laptop as I travel to clients a lot.  I have had a brief look but cannot find the technote that showed me how to do it.  But I did get the instructions off http://support.microsoft.comelspike wrote:
