version 3 keeps rebooting machine

Hiya,

I've a copy of e-smith (Version 3, I think), I've installed it on a machine with the following components:

Pentium Pro 200, 128Mb RAM, Intel motherboard, Intel PCI Network card, Adaptec 2940UW SCSI card, 4.3Gb SCSI HDD, 4Mb Matrox Millennium II and a 56k USR Sportster External.

These are well supported components in Linux, I've got everything detected and configured, and the whole thing works, except for the fact that after 10 minutes the machine spontaneously reboots.

I've had NT4 run on this machine with no problems, and I think Linux as well. I also booted the machine with a DOS disk and left it running for a couple of hours, just in case it was a hardware problem, and it was fine.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Colin

I've download and installed version 4, and it does the same thing. It seems to crash as it's hanging up. I'm testing v4 on another machine at the moment and now the modem refuses to stop dialling and it coming back with the following error:

ppp: ppp0 not active

Why me?

Well, I've put it on another machine (Compaq PW5000, Dual PP200) and it works fine. So for some reason, it doesn't like my Intel m/b. Ah well.

Colin,
You will discover that the hardware list for E-smith 4 is not quite as extensive as Redhat 6.1. We have noticed this especially on pc's using AGP graphics cards.

We have avoided using AGP video cards. Infact we find S3 Virge or Trident PCI Vga PCI cards work best with both Redhat & E-smith. Why? I have no idea.
