Rehi,

Please ignore my question :-)

Silly me, just remarked that we can't use this command except logged in as root.

Sure you can--you just need to either add /usr/sbin to your path, or run /usr/sbin/traceroute.

Hi Dan,

Thanks so much... Please show how you can add /usr/sbin to admin path ?

Sorry for the newbie request on linux world.

Add it to the PATH= statement in .bash_profile in the user's root directory (/home/e-smith/files/users/jeanba).

And before you complain it doesn't work :-) You need to log off and log on again to activate the change.

Michiel,

It doesn't work... just kidding :-) because I don't do anything yet.

There is no .bash_profile in /home/e-smith/files/users/jeanba, ie I have to create one and add PATH=/usr/sbin ?

Many thanks for your help.

Cheers,
PS: how do you know that my username is jeanba ;-)

In /etc/skel you'll find a template for .bash_profile. Copy it to your user's directory, set ownership to the user and edit it to your liking. For instance PATH=$PATH:/usr/sbin would let you find traceroute.

I saw it when I hacked your machine to delete .bash_profile...

Hahaha... thanks so much Michiel.

By the way, please just wait untill I become billionaire before hacking, otherwise it isn't worth.
