« on: September 18, 2003, 11:17:34 PM »
Hello

I´m portuguese, but i write this post in english.

My problem is: I have a router, and i have a computer who it´s conected directely to router... and i have a cable which connect e-smith to the hub. My local network is work fine.

isdn -»--»- router -----» E-smith (server/gateway) (i have two ethernet apadters) ---------» hub ==== Computers.

But when i config my e-smith server, he doesn´t ask me to configure the dns service (web server) why?

He ask me to configure dns service (web server) only when i chose a diferent option in External Interface Configuration. Actual option is static ip adress.

My connetcion don´t have a static ip adress. Please help me... Thanks

SME deals directly with the root DNS servers, so there's nothing to configure for DNS.  Why do you have the router in there?  You shouldn't need it, as the SME should handle most routing functions you'd be looking for.

Do you mean that you want to configure a dynamic dns service such as dyndns.org?

Must be dyndns you asks for, as this won't show up anymore, if you use a static IP on the external NIC.

To solve this you have to get rid of the router and plug ISDN into the SME directly. Then SME knows about the dynamic IP and can provide you with the dyndns services.
