Topic: copy all outgoing email to one account ?

Were installing a CRM type package called KnowledgeSync on one of our Win2K servers. This app requires copies of all incomming and outgoing email messages. The incoming email copy is easy enough. Just choose "forward and deliver locally" in the user account pannel. That part is working fine.

How do I get copies of all outgoing email sent to another address ? Including the KnowledgeSync email account in the BCC works but it's not something we can expect users to remember to do. I would prefer to generate the copies on the server. I've found several previous threads with this question but no answers.

This has been a hot topic for several users, seach the forum at you should be able to find some detailed information, but last time I checked this requires you to recompile qmail.

Now here's the catch-22, qmail's license prevents someone from distributing a modified binary, so, despite the large demand for this feature, this is not something that's distributed in binary form and is a reason why it's not included with E-Smith/SME out of the box.

Thanks for the quick responce Nathan. I had seen several posts on the web pointing to the FAQ describing the procedure. I hoped there would be a solution that didn't require compiling as that's something I'm not set up for or educated on.

I wasn't aware of the distribution issues. That explains why I havn't found a pre-compiled version yet.

Actually, strictly speaking, qmail's license only prohibits you from distributing the modified binary as qmail. You can distribute a modified binary as long as you don't call it qmail. Mitel does this too, see :

Hopefully, time permitting, the mail capturing process could be refined further. My howto on this is still fairly crude. It did serve its purpose but could be better. When SME 6 UDE is released, I will try and test that it will still work the same on it and perhaps refine it a little. I started to document the scripts with comments but did not get very far .

The mailcapture how-to is interesting but doesn't really do what I need. The process described in the qmail FAQ looks more in line with what I'm looking for. Recompiling qmail and writing an appropriate filter are beyond my abilities right now. I hesitate to ask this on a user to user forum, but where do I go to find somebody familiar enough with SME and qmail that can do the work as a consultant ? Is this something Mitel gets into ?

Hi Ray,

The mailcapture how-to was designed with mail archival / audit in mind. However, the scripts used to drive it may be modified for other mail processing needs. Unfortunately, without knowing anything about your CRM package makes it hard to know what its requirements are in terms of the captured mails (as the captured mails may be directed to a mail folder just as if you had sent or forwarded it there).
