3rd party software on a e-smith server
« on: October 03, 2003, 01:55:23 PM »
Hi,

I've played around a bit with Red Hat in the past and used to use it as a game server. I've been looking at a gateway solution for ages, incorporating web and mail etc.
So the SME looks exactly what i want. I've put it onto a powerful machine and set some of it up :) and am trying to work out the rest (realising im a dumb n00b). The only thing that i've noticed is that there is nothing any where about how to install 3rd party apps. I want to have it as a games server, e.g. americas army has a linux install but where do i go to install it?

I take it the port forwarding is done via the text console as i can't see it in the web manager.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Hi

if you want any 3 party software then take a trip over to http://contribs.org

A lot of developers have done just that :-)

And from the home page here look at Contributed HOWTOs, here are 2 howtos on installing CS & UT. Lot's of others out there.

Thanks Trevor. When previously looking for documents i kept getting referred to the commercial site and didn't find the administrators guide to useful. I did a search for americas army and pulled nothing up, i shud have realised to search for UT as that the engine it uses at the end of the day.
Are you all still on 5.6? I wasn't sure whether i shud go for the 6.0 beta or not, in case things like 3rd party wouldn't work. Before i do too much configuration do you reckon it's worth moving up to 6?

Im on 5.6, note that there is some "possible" errors if trying to install add-on's from contribs.org on 6 not sure as not on ver 6 yet ;-)

So If you want to move upto 6 then do so
