Topic: uninstalling phpMyAdmin 2.5.2-pl1

hi,
  i installed my phpMyAdmin 2.5.2-pl1 from a tar.gz source file. now i want it to update it to phpmyadmin 2.5.3-4 which are available from contribs.org in rpms.

so my question will be, do i need to uninstall my phpMyAdmin 2.5.2-pl1 which is from a tar.gz source file before i will apply the rpm updates? if i do need to unstall, what will be the commands/steps? wont it affect my system?
