VPN connection to W2Kserver
« on: October 07, 2003, 01:41:52 PM »
Hi!

I have a SME 6.0beta3 and a MS W2Kserver. From my home I would like to make a VPN connection from my XP Pro client to the SME6 and get access to the files on my W2Kserver. But I cant get in on that server. I have defined the W2K in the local networks setting on SME6 but I cant even ping that machine.

Any ideas???

Thnx,
Michael.

I use 5.6U5 and often vpn in and work with files on my windows boxes and use RDP etc.

Just standard setup server only with another firewall forwarding ports to the sme box.

If you have in the same network the SME and W2k, Why do you define the local network in SME panel?, It's no necesary. You make vpn with your XP Pro to the SME 6.0, and it assigns to your XP a virtual IP in the local network of SME and W2K. Then you should make ping to W2K.
Another thing is if you can get a shared directorys from W2K, then you need have the correct username and password in windows XP to access W2K.

does your win2k server know how to get to your home network?
is the sme server the def gw for the win2k box?

The SME is the default GW on the W2K server and there are no problems internal. Just when I have to access files on W2K from home via VPN.

Do you guys no if there's a special service which have to be started on W2K??

Re: VPN connection to W2Kserver - I know the problem now

I now know what the problem is !!!

At home I have a SME 5.6U5 and when I try to connect to the office behind that it blocks the W2K! If I connect my laptop directly to the Internet there's no problem connecting to the W2K server at work.

But I would really like to be behind my SME5.6 at home while I connect to my work.

Does anyone have a workaround on this???

Thanx,
Michael.
