ftp problem after instalation of 5.6 and the approb. update!
« on: October 19, 2003, 11:07:30 PM »
Hi!

I have just instaled a new server with 5.6 on it, upgraded the proftp witch are postet on the frontpage here.
Then i did as folloved in this thread
http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=8777.msg32911#msg32911
(/sbin/e-smith/signal-event remoteaccess-update)

But in the message log file i have found this :
Oct 19 19:53:28 mug proftpd[1744]: Fatal: unknown configuration directive 'ScoreboardFile' on line 85 of '/etc/proftpd.conf'.

And it is imposibile to log in throug FTP no mather if is made from the internal or external net...
the server is configurad as "server only" and the ftp settings in the server-manager under "remote aaccess" are set to "public" vith "normal ussage"

What does this error means, and any sugestion so that i can login throug FTP ??

Robert

Are you sure you upgraded proftpd in addition to e-smith-proftpd? The e-smith-proftpd update adds the ScoreBoard directive which is required by proftpd-1.2.8p, but causes an error on earlier versions.

BTW, if you did a full cumulative update as recommended by Mitel, you need to do a post-upgrade followed by a reboot as per the instructions. You can only skimp on that (signal smaller events, skip the reboot) if you do incremental updates and know what is required to activate the changes.

You need e-smith-proftpd, which contains templates and actions to configure proftpd. But you also need the proftpd package, which contains the actual ftp server. The mirrors I checked had both. There's a short article on the e-smith.org frontpage that explains how to apply the updates.

yes, i have found the article, but i still witch file do i need ?

I have downloaded the folloing RPM's :
proftpd-1.2.8p-es1.i386.rpm (552.116 KB)
e-smith-proftpd-1.8.0-02.noarch.rpm (27.773 KB)

both downloaded from :
http://wwwtest.sunsite.org.uk/sites/rsync.e-smith.org/e-smith/e-smith/updates/5.6/updates/RPMS/

Is this the files i need ?

And it is this artichel info you are refering to right ?
---- snip ---
The updated rpms can be applied via the following commands:

rpm -Uvh --replacepkgs *.rpm
/sbin/e-smith/signal-event post-upgrade
/sbin/e-smith/signal-event reboot

----- snap ----

Is it posible to update the modules throug the update pannel (witch i have instaled) ?

Yes, those are the rpms I meant.
Yes, that was the article and instructions I referred to.
I have no experience with the update panel, so I can't help you with that.
I can, however, tell you this:
For the sake of simplicity, Mitel only keeps one set of updates per release. These update sets are cumulative. Whenever updated packages are released they are added to the update set and the new set replaces the previous set. Mitel's update instructions amount to:
1. Download the latest set of updates (all of them).
2. Install them over any updates you already have installed (this is what the --replacepkgs flag does).
3. Reconfigure and reboot (signal post-upgrade and reboot events).
It's not a very subtle way to apply updates, but it should work every time. If you follow these instructions, all your services, including ftp, should come up fine.
